The Read Only Scoping program is an online learning program where a student learns how to read the steno a court reporter writes but does not use the steno machine for learning. Software programs translate the steno language into English, and it is a scopist’s job to edit that file or transcript and make it as perfect as possible. A Scopist is an individual who works as an independent contractor for a court reporter. Some bigger court reporting agencies will hire an in-house scopist for their reporters.

Required Equipment List

• A PC or laptop with a minimum of an Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent, 2.8 GHz or faster processor (16GB RAM preferred), and at least 256GB of storage (SSD or HDD).
• Multi-channel digital court reporting software. For those who do not already have this software, an industry partner will provide one free for use during enrollment.
• A USB microphone and a USB speaker. A list of recommended equipment will be provided upon registration.
• A reliable high-speed internet connection with at least 10 Mbps upload speed (higher speeds preferred).
